COOLING METHODS - ADVANTAGES AND DISADVANTAGES

This site contains several pages of information about understanding cooling, better construction practices and equipment packages and prices.  You have several choices of air conditioning methods.

Cooling Method Advantages Disadvanteges
Conventional Forced-Air

Common, Inexpensive Inefficient chiller and delivery method, No zoning capability-comfort factor, Not DIY friendly,
Swamp Coolers -

Wall or Window Mounted Units

Works fine in low humidity conditions and small area applications. Noisy, No zoning capability-comfort factor, inefficient chiller and delivery method.
Mini Split

Some limited zoning capability, quiet. Not DIY friendly, some comfort and efficiency issues.
Arcticool

Superior comfort and efficiency, zone-able, quiet, DIY friendly.

The Arcticool air conditioning system combines the high efficiency scroll compressor, with the elimination of ductwork losses, room by room control, and low installation costs, to guarantee the lowest overall operating cost of any cooling system available.

The high efficiency compressor sits outdoors and has a heat exchanger and circulating pump built into the cabinet.  In the house, you simply mount the air handler unit in the wall or ceiling of each room or area.  The units are connected by insulated PEX tubing and a chilled water/propylene glycol mix is circulated throughout.  Each air handler unit has it’s own thermostat and speed control that regulates the fan.
