Hannel - RadiantDirectHannel - Arcticool

Welcome,

You've made it to our project questionnaire page, which means you're embarking on an exciting journey, building or upgrading your home with the comfort and efficiency of in-floor radiant heat in mind.

My goal is to offer you an affordable, high-quality radiant heating system and/or hydronic cooling system that is simple, easy to install, trouble-free and very efficient.  With the proper project information, I can help you design and price the do-it-yourself comfort system that is most appropriate for your application.

We've put together a chart below showing the average costs per square foot of  about 100 recent projects:

On average, for projects 2,100 square feet and larger - we're able to work up a complete customized radiant system for $2.00 to $4.00 per square foot (that does include a heat source).  For projects less than 2,100 square feet, costs can range from as little as $3 and up to $10.00 per square foot.

For our customers interested in radiant heating and ArctiCool - our average heating/cooling packages sell for $5 to $8 per square foot.  Average project sizes are 2,400 square feet and up.

Please keep in mind these are rough budgeting numbers, not a firm project quote.  I'm trained to help you find the best possible system, that most closely matches your needs, while trying to stay within your budget.  If these rough numbers fall into a range that will work within your project budget and you're ready to give us a try --

Let's Get Started...

But first - a couple of pointers: Use the <tab> key to move from field to field - if you use the <enter> key, you'll submit your form before you're finished.

If you do submit your project information and a validation error occurs - use the <back> button on your browser - that way, you preserve your information and just go back and correct the data in question without having to start over.

  1. Please provide the following contact information:

    First Name
    Last Name
    Daytime Phone
    Alternate Phone
    E-mail
    URL

I'm not going to come knocking on your door or try to pressure you into buying anything - I just need this information to help keep your project from getting mixed up with someone else's.  In a typical month, I work on 50 to 80 projects, and I want to make sure I've got a complete picture of your project when I'm working on it.

All I'm going to do is work through your project information and plans, answer your questions and recommend the system that will best meet your needs - based on my experience with thousands of other customers who just like you, started with this initial project questionnaire...

  2. Please enter the approximate date that you would need a quote for your radiant system:

    -- mm/dd/yy
I can normally turn quotes around within 1-2 weeks, sometimes it takes longer during our busy season.

Please enter the approximate date that you would need materials to be delivered on-site:

    -- mm/dd/yy
Once an order is placed, we can normally have it custom-built and delivered in about 3 to 4 weeks.

  3. Please enter the zip / postal code of the project location?

We can look up climate data for your area on the web and prepare an estimated heat loss for your project for proper sizing of your heat source.

  4. Please enter the approximate project elevation above sea level (in feet):

Gas-Fired heat sources need to be de-rated at higher altitudes.  Again, this helps to insure accurate sizing of your heat source.

  5. Please indicate your water source:

  6. Please select your preferred fuel type:

    Natural Gas
    Oil
    Propane
    Electric

If you're not sure, you may select more than one - I'll offer up a few options for you in your quote.

  7. Please select any of the following heat sources that you may be interested in:

Small Area Solutions - (Less than 1,500 s.f.)

PaceMaker - about 65% - 4" water heater venting (Nat or LP) closed system only.
PaceMaker - about 88% - no venting (Electric 4.5 kW) closed system only.
PaceMaker - about 95% - no venting (Electric 4.5 kW) closed system only.

    Residential/Commercial - (1,400 s.f or larger)

Bock - 80% to 84%-eff. Standard Venting to flue or chimney (Oil, Nat, or LP) can be open, closed or indirect.
Bock - 80% to 84%-eff. with Balanced Combustion System for side-wall venting - not available in all sizes (Oil, Nat, or LP) can be open, closed or indirect.
Polaris 95+%-eff. Vents with PVC of ABS schedule 40 piping (Nat or LP) can be open, closed or indirect.
Prestige-Triangle Tube - 96%-eff. Vents with PVC or ABS schedule 40 piping (Nat or LP) closed system only.
Electro-Boiler - 99%-eff. - no venting required (Electric) closed system only.

  8. Select any of the following system type options that may apply:

    Open System
    Closed System
    Indirect System

An Open System just indicates that the water in the radiant system mixes freely with the domestic hot water.
An Indirect System would separate the DHW from the radiant system by way of a heat exchanger kit.
A Closed System would only heat the radiant system and you'd have a separate heat source for your DHW.

  9. Please indicate the insulation values of your walls and ceilings: (r-19 is typical for walls and r-30 is typical for ceilings)

  10. Project Breakdown:  Please indicate the square footage of the various levels you would like heated and select the installation method appropriate for those areas - we'll calculate the amount of piping and loops based on your input and floor plans.  If you're not sure on the installation method, please describe your situation in the comments box below.  If you've decided on floor coverings and zoning, feel free to make those selections on the chart as well.
Level Area in s.f. Installation Method Floor Coverings # of Zones/Stats
    Lower
    Main
    Upper
    Garage
    Bonus
    Snow Melt
    Other

If you're using Warmboard panels, I will need to review their designs to confirm their manifold configurations to produce an accurate quote.

    Joist Spacing :     Joist Type:

If joist spacing is other than 16" on center, or if you have vaulted ceilings, skylights or other areas of high heat loss, please indicate that here and on your floor plans.

In addition, we need to know the location of the heater/manifold in order to draw up your tubing layout.  If you have a thermostat zoning preference or any other project comments, please let me know either in the comments section and/or on your plans.

  11. Space for additional comments - If you'd like a quote for cooling with our ArctiCool system, just let me know here which areas you'd like cooling for:

  12. Please provide the following information to expedite the handling of your request:
    SHIPPING
    Street Address
    Address (cont.)
    City
    State/Province
    Zip/Postal Code
    Country

Having this information helps us work up a quote that includes the best possible shipping rates - and leaves you with no surprises when it comes time for you to place your order.
